About

Bifrost is Intility's design system. Bifrost is a useful tool for developers to quickly develop new projects, and help us shape and sharpen Intilitys design profile internally and to the public.

Northern origin

The name Bifrost is inspired by Norse mythology. Bifrost is the bridge that connects the mythical gods to the world of humans. As a Norwegian company that is proud of our roots, we design Bifrost to embrace our culture and strengthen the bond between designers and developers.

The birth of Bifrost

A team of designers and developers started on the tedious planning of creating a design system in 2019, before the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic. Then the pandemic hit in early 2020 and everybody had to work from home. Some might think that this would slow down the progress, but it did not. It accelerated the whole process as the team spent hours upon hours of videochats, completing the first version of what we now know as Bifrost in early 2020.

Since then there has been several updates to Bifrost, and we will continue improving the design system and guidelines in the upcoming future.
